ROCKER BOARD FAQs

General Questions

  • WHAT IS A ROCKER BOARD?
Rocker boards primarily allow comfort and motion for indoor cyclists using resistance trainers. There are many styles of Rocker Boards but the goal is the same — breaking the riders fixed/solid connection with the floor. When riding outdoors the bicycle and rider have natural lateral movements. These movements provide a brea

Sizing

  • WILL MY TRAINER FIT?  CHOOSING SMALL VS LARGE PLATFORMS
Large Rocker Boards will give you more surface area and mounting points depending on your trainer setup. However most triangular trainers will fit on the small version of the board. See sizing reference below:

    • Large Platform:
      Tacx Neos
      Wahoo Kikrs except Snap
      Elites all except Tuo
      Kinetic RS

    • Small Platform:
      Wahoo Snap
      Elite Tuo

This is not an exhaustive list—see below for options.

  • HOW BIG IS A ROCKER BOARD?
If you are curious as to whether or not your space will accomodate a Rocker Board, use the AR (augmented reality) feature in the customization interface on your iphone or android to visually determine what can work. Allow a certain amount of space on left and right sides to account for leaning during use. AR is also helpful for selecting board sizes (small v. large) for your existing trainer, simply stand directlyover trainer and position AR model, check fit. Both sizes have a square footprint of 36 X  55″ and the recommended floor space is a minimum of 48 X 72″.

  • HOW MUCH DOES A ROCKER BOARD WEIGH?
    42 lbs.

  • WILL MY BIKE FIT LENGTH WISE ON THE ROCKERBOARD?
Board will accommodate wheelbases up to 44″.

  • HOW MUCH WEIGHT WILL ROCKER BOARDS SUPPORT?
Up to 325LBS. Combined, rider trainer and bike.

Custom or Not

  • CUSTOM FINISHES — FULL OVERLAY VS SKID TAPE
Skid tape boards will allow you to place any combination of individual pieces of art as individual decals on the top face of the board, these decals are applied and then sealed to the surface with top coat of varnish . Skid tape is placed on top in the mount/dismount areas to prevent slippage.

A full overlay board will allow you to have a custom image printed onto a skid resistant overlay material that covers the boards entire top surface. (no individual pieces of skid tape so the artwork is continuous across the top surface) This surface is easier to care for.

  • BASE COLORS
All Rocker Boards are offered in the following colors…

    • Solids:
      Black
      Blue
      Red
      White
      Yelo

    • Stained:
      Gun Stock
      Light Oak

All custom boards utilize one of these base colors as chosen, keep in mind that the full overlay boards top will be white where covered by any area where the design is not colored.

  • REGULAR FINISHES
Regular rocker boards are finished with enamel paint or stain, per your selection. They have pre-applied skid tape in the mount/dismount areas to prevent slippage.

  • WHY DOES THE FULL OVERLAY BOARDS FACE APPEAR WHITE?
This defines the extents of the overlay itself. The substrate is white and will remain white unless you apply colors or images to it.

  • WHY IS THERE A HALO OF COLOR AROUND THE FULL OVERLAY BOARD’S EDGES?
The overlay ends at the boards chamfered edges (webbing holes and outside edge), because of this you will see the base color you have picked in these areas.

  • WHY DON”T I SEE THE BASE COLOR ON FULL OVERLAY BOARD?
View board in 3D or AR to see how the boards base color relates to your design. From above you will only see base color at edges of  board.

  • WHY DOES THE SQ in AREA OF MY DESIGN ELEMENTS EXCEED THE BOARDS ACTUAL SIZE?
Be sure to crop your artwork, the Sq in calculator adds the total size of  all the art regardless of whether or not it appears in the design area. However the maximum charge is no greater than the boards total available surface area.

  • HOW DO YOU VERIFY MY DESIGN IS AS I SEE IT IN THE CUSTOMIZER?
Once your custom order, we will review your design, rasterize it and send you a proof of the final file we will print with. You will have to approve this proof before we proceed with production.

  • I’M CONCERNED ABOUT THE QUALITY OR RESOLUTION OF SOME IMAGES IN MY DESIGN?

You’ll see a warning if your image falls below our minimum recommended resolution. Please heed this notice, as we are showing you the bare minimum resolution required for good reproduction at our viewing distance. Don’t “res” up images with editing software and expect quality results.

Care and Maintenance

  • HOW DO I CLEAN MY ROCKER BOARD?
Warm water with a mild soap and a lint free cloth rag for all surfaces. Stained surfaces maybe cleaned with wood floor products, do not use furniture polishes as they will make platform surface slick.

  • WHAT MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED?
    Regular cleaning.

Every 5 rides inspect inflatable bladders for wear or tearing. If bladders are sticking add a small amount of corn starch or baby powder to retainer area.

Every 5 rides inspect Velcro tie downs — snug up as needed.

Every 1K miles grease axle shaft with a moly grease in front of and behind each bearing block wile the board is in a neutral position.

Every 1K miles inspect skid tape or skid resistant overlay, replace if worn.

Every 1K miles insure that leveling feet are all in even contact with floor.

  • MY ROCKER BOARD LEANS TOO MUCH / NOT ENOUGH?
Adjust inflatable bladders, find the air valve — add or release air to calibrate your desired lean resistance, keep all four bladders evenly filled.

  • FORWARD/BACKWARDS RESISTANCE?
If motion is too fast move the springs one end at a time to the outer hook on the spring retainer block. Adjust bottom front and back together, check motion — if more resistance is still required move top positions also.

  • MY TRAINER/FRONT WHEEL KEEPS SLIPPING.
First adjust the velcro strap tension refer to instructions for webbing pattern. If that doesn’t correct slippage add supplied adhesive rubber pads to bottom of wheel block.

  • BEST WAY TO STORE/MOVE ROCKER BOARD?
Store vertically, use an appropriate sized block to keep bottom platform supported to alleviate storing of springs under tension.. Remove bottom feet for transport or packaging / moving.

  • MY ROCKER BOARD NEEDS NEW PARTS?
Grip tape wearing off? Bladders leaking? Something else? Email, call or submit a message (include photo if necessary) and we’ll help you get back in action quickly.

  • MY CUSTOM OVERLAY IS STARTING TO WEAR OR  YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A CHANGE?
Overlays are extraordinarily durable and inks are UV resistant, should you have wear issue, email, call or submit a message (include photo if necessary). Overlays are easily removed and replaced. If you need a direct replacement we probably have your design archived.

Best Practices

  • HOW DO I FASTEN MY TRAINER TO THE ROCKER BOARD?
Follow instruct ruction for webbing of Velcro examples. It is important that trainer if firmly secured to platform. Collapsable trainers must be fully opened and tensioned in the direction of their hinges. Trainers require the webbing to pull tension in 5 directions; forward, backwards, left, right, and down.

  • WHERE SHOULD I PLACE MY ROCKERBOARD SETUP?
Anywhere you like! Comfort is a large factor in performance gains. Air flow, headroom and the ability to regulate temperature are major considerations when choosing your location. Seek to have as much space to the side you normally dismount from as possible. The durable rubber feet will grip most floors. You can also make small adjustments to the height of the feet in case your floor has inconsistencies.

  • HOW DO I GET ON/OFF MY ROCKER BOARD?
Mount and dismount as you normally would. Bear in mind as you place your weight onto the platform it will lean to you, but you still need to step up onto the platform while swinging your leg over your bicycle. The grip of the boards surface or tape will also affect the ball of your foot from rotating as easily as it would on the pavement or dirt (especially with cleats). So, when initially placing your foot, try to set it at a 30-40° angle relative to your bike, just slightly more forward pointing than you would normally.
